Brief narrative

On 23 October 2003, security officers and police, demolished 429 homes in three villages located on the bank of Cipinang River, evicting 1,800 people. Authorities demolished 44 houses in Cipinang Muara village, 237 in Cipinang Besar Utara, and 148 in Cipinang Besar Selatan to clear land for the Banjir Kanal Timur (East Jakarta Flood Canal) project.
