Brief narrative |
According to the Cameroon Tribune of 14 June 2010, these recent evictions began on 8 June 2010 on the Bois des Singes operation and were carried out by representatives of the local urban municipality authority under Mr. Fritz Ntoné Ntoné. It is still difficult to estimate the exact number of victims, but local reports affirm that approximately 1,200 people have been left homeless. The demolitions are significant and widespread, affecting local merchants, traders, hairstylists, lower-income workers and families with young members. Victims have been given no alternative accommodations nor compensation. | ||||||||
