The Herald (Harare)Published by the government of Zimbabwe1 January 2008Posted to the web 2 January 2008HarareFORTY-SEVEN families are facing eviction from a farm they were allocated in 2001 in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East Province.The families are stranded at Strathlorne Farm following the arrival of three men from Harare, who claim to have been allocated the same land by the responsible authorities.The farm is situated about 50km from Harare.When The Herald visited the farm recently, the families had been served with new offer letters indicating that they would be settled at another farm.The new offer letters from the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and Urban Development were issued on October 22 last year.Officials from that ministry forced the offer letters on us. They are forcing us to go and occupy Saratoga Farm, a game park near Shamva, said one of the victims.Others said they accepted the offer letters, signed by the acting district administrator, a Mr M. J. Hamandishe, out of fear following a series of threats from the people seeking occupation of the farm.The old offer letters issued to them on February 23, 2004, also originated from the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and Urban Development and were signed by the Goromonzi acting district administrator identified as E.
