The injured were trying to saves their homes in Jumma Goth, Bin Qasim Town, within the jurisdiction of Ibrahim Haidery Police Station. Mr. Sultan Junejo, 30, Mr. Pervez Abro, 25, Ms. Sabra Kulachi, Ms. Zain Kulachi and two children, Humair Baloch and Khalid Baloch, were rushed to the JPMC where Mr. Sultan passed away after a while. At least 15 of 500 houses were demolished after which people started protesting. “Not a single official from my police station was there during the drive,” said Ibrahim Haidery Police Station Officer (SHO) Mr. Sarwar Hussain. “The encroachment team came along with four police mobiles from different police stations in Landhi Town.” He said that when the residents started putting up a fight, the police opened fire to disperse them. After that the police left. Furthermore, the SHO said that the “encroachment police” didn’t make an entry with the Ibrahim Haidery Police Station. According to the rules, if an operation is being conducted within the jurisdiction of another police station then that police station has to be notified, and an entry has to be made in its log books. Bin Qasim Town Nazim (Mayor) Mr. Jan Alam Jamot told Daily Times that this was not the first time something like this has happened. Korangi Town encroachment teams, along with town police, have done this several times and they opened fire on innocent people, he said. Korangi Town Nazim (Mayor) Mr. Arif Khan said that he was not involved with what happened. “It was in the jurisdiction of Bin Qasim Town, not mine.” He said that he hadn’t issued any orders for such an operation and that he had no information about it. “We will know who went there on Thursday,” he added. Landhi Town Police Officer Dr Sain Rakhio Mirani said that his police had nothing to do with it either. Some months ago, when the city district government demolished some villages in Karachi, as chief executive of the province the Sindh chief minister had held the assurance that no such action would be taken in the future.rnrnBut the assurance of the chief minister proved hollow when once again the city government and KDA bulldozed 50 houses in Juma Kalmati Goth in violation of the chief minister’s directives.rnrn… It appears that the KDA and city government enjoy the backing of some influential hidden hands; hence they are violating the directives of the chief executive of the province. It is strange that there are hundreds of katchi abadis constructed illegally, but whenever KDA and the city government choose to demolish some settlement, it is always some goth of indigenous people who had been living their since pre-partition days or for centuries…
