Brief narrative |
Nigeria has consistently been one of the worst violators of housing and land rights in the world. Since 2000, alone, the Nigerian government has forcibly evicted over 2 million peopls in different parts of the country. Often the justifications provided by national and local governments are wide-ranging, includign development plans, beautification of cities, privatization, and the cleaning up of criminal infested areas. Evictions are often carried out violently, with disregard to the residents` documental ownership of their property and with insufficient notice.
