Israel Confiscates 47 Acres of Palestinian Land near Nablus

Ma’an – Israeli authorities issued a confiscation order Friday for 189 dunams of land in the village of Qaryut, southeast of Nablus. Locals are no longer allowed to access the lands as they are considered Israeli state property. Head of Qaryout village council Abdul-Nasser al-Qayrouti told Ma’an that Israeli forces delivered a notification to the council signed by the Israeli Civil Administration.

Ghassan Daghlas, the Palestinian Authority official for monitoring settlement activity in the northern West Bank, told Ma`an that Qaryut and the nearby village of al-Lubban are surrounded by seven illegal Israeli settlements and an outpost that Israel may soon legalize. He said locals had noted an expansion in construction activity around the outpost, Givat Hayovel. Givat Hayovel was established in 1998 with the help of nearly $75,000 from the Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing. It has 17 permanent homes and 30 caravans. original
