Brief narrative

From COHRE`s Global Survey on Forced Evictions, 2003-2006: During the 27-year civil war in Angola, which ended in 2002, thousands of people were forced to flee their homes to the capital Luanda, where they live in informal settlements. Since the war ended, demand for land in the capital has increased and the Government of Angola initiated policies that allowed private developers to take over redevelopment of the city. The commercialisation of urban land has resulted in the forced eviction of thousands of dwellers, most of whom live with no legal tenure.
